Makemake, primum 2005 FY9, tum 136472 appellatus, magnitudine est tertius Systematis Solaris planetularum, qui propter orbitas suas in numero plutoidum habentur, et una ex duarum maximarum Cinguli Kuiperiani rerum in numero Classicorum Cinguli Kuiperiani obiectorum. Nomen proprium deducitur a Makemake, deo creatore Insulae Paschalis.

Planetulae diameter est fere tres partes diametri Plutonis.[1] Soli inter maxima Cinguli Kuiperiani obiecta Makemaki nullae sunt satellites notae. Ob frigiditatem extremam superficies glacie methani, ethani, fortasse nitrogenii tegitur.

Makemake est pridie Kalendas Aprilis 2005 inventus a grege ab astronomo Michaele Brown ducto, et die 29 Iulii 2005 publice praedicatus. Die 11 Iunii 2008, Unio Astronomica Internationalis Makemake in indice rerum disposuit quibus status plutoidis daretur, nomen planetularum ultra orbitam Neptuni habentium sicut Pluto, Haumea et Eris. Makemake rite mense Iulio 2008 planetula seu plutoides est descriptus.[2][3][4]
