Duodecim tabulae


Duodecim tabulae,[1] in Digestis lex duodecim tabularum,[2] sunt exempla legis antiquissimae Romanorum, quae traduntur ab anno 451 ad 450 a decemviris legibus scribundis compositae esse. Nullum exemplar harum legum exstat, sed ex variis textibus plurimae leges restitui possunt.

Sic traditur apud Livium: consulatu modo pristino de legibus non divulgasse, quas solum pontifices patriciique novissent, et praeterea severissime in plebem actum esse; Terentilium vero anno 462 hortatum ut publice vulgaretur, ne leges plebs ignoraret; cui patricios strenue et diutius obstetisse; sed circiter 451 primos decemviros creatos esse, ut leges perscriberent.
